Skills Bootcamp: Electric Vehicles
Upskill your automotive staff and future-proof your workforce!
Funded by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, this Electric Vehicle Skills Bootcamp runs over 10 weeks (day release, 1 day per week for 10 weeks) and equips your staff with the technical knowledge and practical skills to confidently and safely maintain and repair electric and hybrid vehicles.
This course is designed for employers looking to enhance the capabilities of their technicians or mechanics. On completion, learners will be able to work safely on electric/hybrid vehicles and carry out essential tasks including high-voltage system repairs, data recording, and recommending maintenance solutions.
The Skills Bootcamp includes a blend of classroom-based and hands-on workshop learning, preparing participants to meet the demands of the fast-evolving electric vehicle (EV) market.
Qualifications
Participants will achieve the Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) Level 3 Award in Electric and Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement. Learners can also be registered on the IMI TechSafe professional register.
Delivery Information
The course is delivered in-person, every Thursday from 2nd October 2025 for 10 consecutive weeks, 8am – 4pm, at the South West Skills Campus, Locking Road, Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, BS22 8ND.

Assessment Method
Assessment includes practical workshop tasks and a portfolio-based evaluation to demonstrate competency in key areas.
Funding this course
For employers wishing to upskill their employees, this course will be discounted by 70% for large employers and 90% for SMEs as part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee.
Course Fees
- Large employers (250+ employees) make a 30% contribution of £751.78 per delegate
- Small employers (up to 249 employees) make a 10% contribution of £250.59 per delegate
Eligibility
Participants must:
- Be over 19
- Be currently employed with a sponsoring employer
- Be based in the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (Bristol, Bath, North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, or North Somerset)
- Not have completed a different Skills Bootcamp in the same financial year
